RDSI Node Status – Update

RDSI is pleased to announce that Nodes continue to make progress around the country.   Nodes are ingesting data and some are even making data available to researchers.

RDSI has introduced a simple traffic light structure which categorises the progress of each Node to date.  Nodes have been placed in one of the three following categories:

  • Red – Setup Phase:  Node must have signed the Node contract with RDSI.
  • Amber – Data Ingest:  The Node Allocation Committee is allocating storage and data is being ingested.
  • Green – Fully Operational:  Researchers have access to shared data and the Node is reporting on operational status.

To see the current status of the Nodes including the number of terabytes available to download, please visit: http://www.rdsi.uq.edu.au/node-statuses

Node Statuses can change from one day to the next, so stay tuned.

iVEC prepares Pawsey Centre for production

The last few months have been very busy for iVEC, after taking occupancy of the Pawsey Centre supercomputing facility in April. Delivery of all of the components of the first stage of the Pawsey Centre’s hardware is now complete, and iVEC and its vendor partners are in the process of installing and commissioning the equipment in the facility. The next few months will see the components run through initial acceptance testing, with a selection of hand-picked early adopters expected to start using the systems by mid-year.

Production use of the facility is planned for 1 September, with researchers from all across Australia beginning their projects on the first round of allocation on the Magnus supercomputer. As a key piece of Australian eResearch infrastructure, access to the Pawsey Centre supercomputer will be made available to all Australian researchers through future rounds of the National Merit Allocation Scheme or through discretionary allocation by the iVEC partner organisations.

5 Vacancies at the New Zealand eScience Infrastructure

The New Zealand eScience Infrastructure (NeSI) is expanding. NeSI is an unincorporated collaboration of universities and research institutes providing high performance computing, data infrastructure and scientific software expertise to the New Zealand research community. It has new roles in technical, business analysis and project coordination functions.
