AeRO Forum 2015 – a resounding success!

The numbers say it all – 85 delegates representing 55 organisations interested in eResearch across 9 disciplines – a clear indication of the need for communication and collaboration across the eResearch sector.

Gathering at the 6th National AeRO Forum in Canberra on 22nd July, attendees heard information firsthand from three keynote speakers and also had the opportunity to directly engage the speakers regarding potential impacts of the findings and other issues of interest.

Prof Susan Pond (Australian National Research Infrastructure Review) detailed key review information including the recommendations being presented to the Government this month for consideration.

Prof Tom Cochrane (The 2014 Status Report) provided an overview of the findings in his report. A summary of the findings will be available on the AeRO website soon.

Dr Rhys Francis highlighted the importance of enhancing research impact and our stock of knowledge through eResearch capabilities, and how these might evolve.

The two afternoon sessions tackled the key topics of Direction Setting and Integrating Across Boundaries. Attendees utilised the open mic sessions to pose issues, present challenges and provide feedback on a range of items.

AeRO played a pivotal role in bringing together the speakers and attendees for this event. “There is a clear desire for collaboration and need for timely communication of information within the sector” said Dr Markus Buchhorn, AeRO CEO “and AeRO is ideally positioned to fulfill that need via events like this”. The Forum was kindly hosted by CAUDIT, AARNet and Intersect – AeRO member organisations.

AeRO wants to thank the keynote speakers and Forum attendees for their active participation on the day. For those unable to attend, we look forward to providing copies of the presentations, discussion notes and Prof Cochrane’s summary report on our website in the very near future.
